Subcontractor Tips

Most general contractors rely on trade contractors to assist them in successfully completing construction projects. Likewise, trade or subcontractors often depend on GCs for work. Many general and trade contractors have long-standing relationships and a mutual respect for each other. However, when trade contractors are considering working with a GC for the first time, there are some tips to be aware of. Read the full article from Construct Connect…

  • Do your homework on the contractor
  • Make sure you have a contract/change orders in place before beginning any work
  • Read the details and fine print of the contract
  • Review payment bonds, if there are any
  • Clauses to watch for:
    •  Pay-when-paid or pay-if-paid clauses
    •  Flow-down or pass-through clauses
    •  Indemnification clauses

Brookstone Builders Inc.-Friday Funny-SPRING

Hello and happy Friday and Happy Spring! WE DID IT!  We made it through the winter that just kept on coming.  It was late to arrive and it seems it is late leaving too.  I think we may see a few robins just like the one in the cartoon below.

 Here are a few facts about NH;

The NH sport is skiing and was adopted in 1998.
Manchester, is the largest city in NH.
The first snowmobile was invented by George Morton of Bartlett, NH.
State flower-purple liliac
State insect- lady bug, 1977
State bird purple finch
State tree-white birch, 1947
Let's hope with Spring being here we start seeing some of our state designated flower, bird, insect and tree.
Have a great weekend and we will be back on Monday.

Brookstone Builders, Inc.- Frost Quakes

Have you been up during the early morning hours listening to loud, snapping, popping and cracking noises?  You lay there thinking is it my roof?  Then during light hours you look at the ceilings in your house wondering if that crack is bigger?  Many people have been reporting on these noises describing them as gunshot noises, explosions, popping, You are not alone. Here in New England we are experiencing extreme cold and for many of us we are hearing these loud noises for the first time.  It isn't just you and they are real.  They are
called frost quakes or Cryoseism. Interesting, have a read, you may sleep better tonight if you read this.

Brookstone Builders, Inc.-Friday Funny/Snow

Hooray it is Friday! Another long week in New England. Wish we could say it isn't so but I think it is, more snow on the way. Plan for the storm now, don't wait for when it is here and too late. Push snow away from exits and walk ways, mailboxes and hydrants, and pipes. Try and do a little at a time, to keep up with it and to give your body a break.  Hope everyone has a good snow blower.

True story, the other day I was walking through a store and I saw someone buying a new snow blower. Hang in there New Englanders!

Brookstone Builders, Inc.-Friday Funny-SNOW

Happy Friday all!  It has been a long week with a lot of snow and alot of snow removal.  Hope everyone is helping out with cleaning side walks, exhaust pipes, mail boxes, and fire hydrants.  Keep in mind at those bus stops with high snow banks wait small children who might run out or slip and fall so be extra careful.  I thought this little cartoon sort of sums up what most of us are thinking about the potential of more snow.

At least we have the "Big Game" to look forward to and here is one Patriot Fan showing their support.
