Unique Project!

We were recently selected to perform a unique replacement project by the US Navy that you might find interesting.

The scope-of-work will involve the dismantling, removal and replacement of a spiral staircase that services the lowest level of a dry-dock pump house at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The new staircase will be made of stainless steel, and will facilitate easier access for the crews that maintain the dewatering pumps, which are located approximately fifty-feet below ground level.

When Your Contractor Says, "No!"?

As a regional commercial contractor, we are first and foremost in the Customer Service Business.  We want to please our clients and be a good partner/advisor to them as well as to everyone involved on a project.

But that does not mean that we subscribe to the YES theory – i.e., were our clients are always correct even when they are not.  

In fact, as experts in the commercial construction industry one of our primary roles is to be the best possible advisors for them which sometimes mean we need to say NO – and when we do, you can bet it’s for a good reason which we will gladly explain.

Job Site Safety is No Accident!

Safety in the workplace is the joint responsibility of the entire workforce of any organization.

The benefits of maintaining a safe work environment are many, but first and foremost, safety is about proactively protecting workers and those around your work area... who are often customers.

For example, Joe Jones was serving as Project Manager for a renovation project during which the customer site was to remain open-for-business while the work was being done. This meant that a number of people who were unfamiliar with construction work and site protocols would be passing-by and working-around the work area.

Fortunately Joe was well-trained in safety rules and best practices, and he took the initiative of applying this knowledge to maximize safety during the project.

The temp is going up and so is the humidity.  This week is going to be a tough one if you spend much time outdoors.  Plan for it now because later this week it will be worse. 

Remember to replenish fluids often plan to pack a cooler with water and those sports drinks too, you will need to add sugar and other things back into your body.  Take breaks, protect your skin.

We shared some tips regarding heat exhaustion before, give it a read today so you are prepared for later this week.

Happy Earth Day!  Be kind to our Earth, we only have one.  We all need to step up and make efforts to reduce our carbon footprint.  Recycle, reuse and reduce whenever possible.  There are so many things you can do,  don't litter, utilize your towns recycle services, use energy efficient light bulbs, unplug and turn off things when not in use, go solar, teach the next generation about the importance of reducing, recycling and reusing.  If you just choose a few things each month, then you will be making a difference.
